Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a philosophy and form of health care which emphasizes the interrelationship between structure and function of the body – recognizing the body’s ability to heal itself.

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

Why do I need it?

Your body is subjected to different types of strain every day. These can result from the way you sit, working at a computer, from standing for long periods, from repetitive motion, overworking, under-resting or from accidental injury. Your body absorbs all these strains.

Usually the regeneration process works silently without us even knowing, however sometimes things go wrong and we are left feeling pain, discomfort, immobile and vulnerable. An Osteopath can facilitate the regeneration process – principally by the practice of manual and manipulative therapy.

More Mobile & Pain Free

I came to NIHP with back pain which was getting worse. I had previously had sciatica (a few years ago) but this was different. I was treated by Amanda who was most thorough and very pleasant in manner – easy to talk to, which took my mind off the intensive treatment she delivered! After 4 visits I have been discharged feeling more mobile and pain free. Thank you Amanda. I would not hesitate to recommend NIHP to family and friends.

Lower Back Pain

I contacted NIHP because I had been suffering from lower back pain and muscle spasms, and exercise mainly through swimming. After Osteopathy Treatment with Amanda I feel more confident to return to swimming, which I have done, and also feel I can now look forward to my upcoming holiday. I have reduced pain and discomfort and this has definitely improved my lifestyle.

Shoulder injury & elbow pain

I had difficulty with a range of movements involving my right shoulder which I damaged 2 years ago. I also had pain in my left elbow which increased when I lifted or turned it.

The therapies Amanda used, and the exercises she gave me to do between sessions, resulted in a gradual improvement over a few weeks. She has also sorted out a few problems which I didn’t know I had, including problems with my knees and buttocks. I have been pleased with the treatment I’ve received.

My leg is back to normal with no pain

I had a lot of pain down my right leg and hip. The hospital physio could not help as they did not know where the pain was coming from. Amanda pinpointed the source immediately and started Osteopathy treatment along with home exercises.

I improved with each visit and after 4 visits my leg is back to normal with no pain. I would certainly recommend other people to see the Osteopath.

I was amazed at how quickly I had relief

I had sudden and unexplained back pain – it was excruciating to move. Fortunately I got an appointment very quickly and drove to it with an ice-pack attached – dreading the drive back after a session with Amanda. I was amazed at how quickly I had relief and flexibility returned – she was able to diagnose the issue, provide exercises to improve my back and furthermore she addressed a knee problem which was not part of my original need.

What amazed me most has been the speed of my recovery – many thanks.

Recommend for Back Problems

I have been treated with a selection of stretches and manipulations by a person who knows what she is doing. She has also shown me exercises to do at home which has also benefited. I have no hesitation in recommending the clinic to anyone with back problems.

Came in with a back injury on Monday afternoon and I was back to work on the Tuesday. Great service and very professional. Amanda gave me exercises to keep on top of my muscle strengthening. Thank you.

Gentle but very thorough

I attended 3 osteopathy sessions by Amanda, with treatment mainly to my right ankle, knee and lower back. I found her attention to be gentle but very thorough and have no hesitation in having the same treatment by Amanda when the need arises. I found her to be very professional in her approach.

What techniques are used?

Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.

Your Osteopath may also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring. Some techniques can induce mild discomfort but most are pain free and quite pleasant!

Continued treatments every few months are recommended to prevent relapses or just to stay in good shape.
