What is Biomechanics?
Biomechanics involves looking in detail at the body, its alignment and how it functions. A Biomechanical Assessment is very beneficial if you are experiencing pain but no cause has been established.
It is the starting point for understanding the cause of your problem, what treatment is needed or whether further investigations are necessary.
Do you suffer from any of the following?
- Ankle Pain
- Back Pain
- Foot Pain
- Hip Pain
- Knee Pain
- Neck Pain
- Shin Pain
You may be surprised to know that body misalignment can be the cause of lots of different types of aches and pain, and Biomechanics may be able to help.
Biomechanics looks at the whole person, assessing the relationship between the spine, pelvis, legs and knees. It is important to examine the body as a whole because pain in one area can be due to a weakness or structural problem in another area.
Your Podiatrist will then be able to build an appropriate management plan, using a variety of techniques to bring the body back into balance, which may include referral to one of expert practitioners for joint mobilisation and manipulation or corrective exercise.
The podiatrist will also look at your footwear and discuss if Orthotics (specialized shoe inserts) are needed to improve your foot alignment.
What are the benefits of a Biomechanical Assessment?
- Find the cause of joint and muscle pain
- Eliminate pain and discomfort
- Identify weaknesses
- Identify and resolve problems
- Improve function and movement
- Improve sports performance
