International Fitness Week

International Fitness WeekStay fit, healthy and injury free with the NIHP - book your place for a FREE functional movement screen on Saturday 13th February between 10:00am and 4:00pm.

January may be over, and the New Year’s resolutions left by the wayside, but it's International Fitness Week from 1st - 7th February and it’s designed to promote health and fitness in its widest sense.

The Northern Integrative Health Practice (NIHP) wants to help create a fitter community and inspire you to make a change to lead a healthier lifestyle; but we want you to do this safely and effectively. That’s why our highly trained exercise specialists Jack Walton and Trevor Rutherford are offering you FREE functional movement screens.

They will:

  • See if your body is correctly aligned.
  • Find out if you are at potential risk of injury.

So what is the functional movement screen and why do you need it?

The functional movement screen is about looking for limitations or left and right imbalances and weaknesses. It's believed by physical therapist and movement screen inventor Gray Cook that the body should be free of restrictions and free of imbalances, in order to help the individual move more efficiently and prevent injury.

The idea of the movement screen is to help individualise a person’s exercise program, based on their limitations and weaknesses. The movement screen consists of 7 tests that assess mobility and stability. It takes approx 30 minutes to an hour, along with health history and exercise goals.

After the assessment exercises, modifications are made and soft tissue treatments may be recommended, this usually happens on a second visit. The screen is normally performed every 4 to 6 weeks, to make sure the exercise program is heading in the right direction. If weak links in the program are not identified, the body will compensate, resulting in ineffective movement and injury.

Stay fit, healthy and injury free with the NIHP - book for a place between 10:00am and 4:00pm on Saturday 13th February.
